Oatmeal and Honey Goat Milk Soap

Frequently Asked Questions

  • It is a very gentle daily bar. Real goat milk gives it a creamy, low-drying lather; colloidal oatmeal is soothing for skin that gets easily irritated; raw honey adds to the softness.
  • Powdered goat milk. Fresh milk can scorch when it hits the lye, which affects color, scent, and consistency batch to batch. Powdered milk gives us a consistent bar while keeping the fatty acids, sugars, and proteins that make goat milk soap so creamy. Vitamins do not survive saponification in any goat milk soap, fresh or powdered, so the real value is in what stays.
  • This is the bar most sensitive-skinned customers reach for. That said, sensitive skin is not a diagnosis, so if you have a specific reaction pattern, patch test the inside of your elbow first.
  • No. The scent is soft and slightly sweet, more comforting than fragrant. Customers who avoid perfumed soap tell us this one works for them.
  • About 3 to 4 weeks with one daily user and a well-draining dish. Cold-process bars are softer than commercial soap and can wear down a little faster if they sit in water. Commercial bars are engineered with hardeners and have the glycerin stripped out, which makes them last longer but also more drying. Ours keep all of their natural glycerin, which is what makes them so moisturizing. A well-draining dish is the single best thing you can do to make a handmade bar last.
  • The color comes from the ingredients, not from dye. Raw honey caramelizes slightly when it meets the lye during saponification, and that reaction gives the bar its warm tan color. Commercial soaps are typically bleached white. We leave ours the color it naturally becomes, which is a pretty reliable sign that the honey on the label is actually in the bar.

Lightly Scented Soap

I am one of those people who can't stand strong fragrances like scented candles or perfumes and air fresheners. So I hesitate to buy scented soaps, but I found the Oatmeal and Honey Goat Milk soap to have a very mild and pleasing scent. So for those of you who have scent sensitivity - this one is for you!
