This is a SET OF 3 fire starters for your outdoor fire pit. I have used them myself and they work great. Neither I or my husband were boy scouts and we have never been good starting fires. For us the process usually involves A LOT of paper, twigs, small pieces of wood and eventually lighter fluid. This makes the process so much easier and doesn't involve any toxic or petroleum based components. It is basically small pieces of cardboard encased in soy wax. The cinnamon sticks and pine cones on top make it decorative and slightly scented, although you really can't smell it outside. They come packaged rustically with torn pieces of cotton muslin and twine. So in fact even the packaging can be thrown into the fire as a kindling of sorts. They would make an adorable and useful gift for anyone you know who has a fire pit.
To use, I recommend setting the "cupcake" on a small flat piece of wood so air can travel all around it. Place a large log on either side of the fire starter. Balance 2-3 small pieces of wood just above the wick and then place a larger log over these small ones, The larger log can be set across the large logs you originally placed. Now light the candle. The small pieces will burn long enough to catch the larger log above it on fire. The rest is up to you. Don't forget to bring marshmallows to roast!
